Halo: Reach Beta Blasts Off

Posted on May 4, 2010

Perhaps the most anticipated beta game of all time, Halo: Reach, hits the XBox 360 today. Available to XBox 360 Gold Members who own Halo: ODST, developer Bungie will be allowing gamers to get a sneak peak at Reach’s multiplayer game mode.

According to an early preview of Reach’s multiplayer, Wired reports that Reach includes much of the old Halo feel with some new tricks up its sleeve to keep gameplay fresh. The biggest change is perhaps the new ‘loadout’ feature that allows players to select a Spartan class in-between spawns. According to Wired, these class include an Airborne class equipped with jetpacks; a Guardian Spartan with superior armor; a Scout class with great mobility; and a Stalker Spartan with cloaking capabilities. Also, players are treated to play as Covenant Elites–the Spartans formidable enemy.

Available gameplay modes currently include Deathmatch, Oddball, Headhunter (a new mode that requires players to collect skulls from dispatched Spartans), and more.

Halo: Reach is slated to launch in fall 2010. The game is set as a prequel to Bungie’s original Halo trilogy and will serve as the final chapter Bungie will pen in the Halo franchise.
